Evgeniya Victory Gonzalez
A tall elegant ballerina, Evgeniya Gonzales astonishes audiences due to her grace and tenderness, as well as pliant and technically excellent performances. Her accounts of fateful women are balanced, conveying inner beauty and profound emotion.
From 2015 to 2018, she was engaged at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, in 2018 and 2019 she was a member of the Bayerisches Staatsballett in Munich. In 2019, she became a demi-soloist of the Czech National Ballet in Prague, where in April 2021 she was named a soloist.
Evgeniya Gonzales was born in St Petersburg, yet she grew up in Stockholm, where in 2015 she graduated from the Royal Swedish Ballet School. While still a student, she performed in a number of Royal Swedish Opera productions. She launched her professional career in 2015 at the Mariinsky Theatre, where she appeared in the roles of the Queen of the Dryads in Don Quixote (Alexander Gorsky), and Mona and Zulma in Giselle (Jean Coralli, Jules Perrot, Marius Petipa). Her repertoire also encompasses the Grand pas in Raymonda (Marius Petipa, Konstantin Sergeyev), the Nymph and the Waltz in The Sleeping Beauty (Marcia Haydée), the Spanish Dance in The Nutcracker (John Neumeier), Gamzatti in La Bayadère (Marius Petipa, Vladimir Ponomarev, Vakhtang Chabukiani), etc. She has also performed in modern ballets, including Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (Christopher Wheeldon), Gnosis (Hlin Hjálmarsdottír) and Labyrinth (Ksenia Zvereva).
In 2014, she received first prize at the Jeune Ballet Mediterranean in Grasse, France, and third prize at the Nordic Baltic Ballet Competition in Sweden.
Evgeniya has danced at prestigious ballet galas – the Russian Master Stars (2018, 2019), the Veterans Aid Charity in London (2018) and the Ballet Summer Estonia Gala (2019).
Since the very beginning of her engagement at the Czech National Ballet, she has appeared in Prague in solo roles of the classical and neoclassical repertoire, with the most significant including Odette/Odile in Swan Lake (John Cranko), Gamzatti in La Bayadère (Javier Torres), the Fairy of Strength in The Sleeping Beauty (Marcia Haydée), Clara and the Christmas Fairy in The Nutcracker – A Christmas Carol (Youri Vámos), the Russian Girl in Serenade(George Balanchine) and the Governess in Leonce & Lena (Christian Spuck). She has also danced in Petite Mort (Jiří Kylián).
In January 2021, she and Fraser Roach performed in Ballet Among Paintings: Rembrandt and Saskia, a unique art video, jointly created by the Czech National Ballet and the National Gallery in Prague.
